The user wants and easy way of signing up and logging in.
Solution
Integrating social sign-in methods allows the user to login with their existing accounts.
Allowing social logins speeds up the signup and login experience, because users don't have to think about choosing a user-name, entering an email address and password.
Facebook, Twitter and Google are the major external login providers, but consider using other services as well that your audience is likely to be already using. For example offering GitHub authentication for developer communities and services makes sense.
Offering social login as the only means of signing up and singing in might not work in all use cases, so having it besides the email/password login form lets users choose the preferred method.
In addition to the actual login and signup you can leverage the provided information to build up a basic profile about the user and pre-populate certain fields. This feature improves UX quite a bit and makes it easier on the user by not forcing them to enter all their information into the new app or service.
